Each fall, we ask our congregation for their recommendations for candidates to serve as Elders, Deacons, and members of the Nominating Committee.

Please take a few moments to pray and consider whom you might recommend to the committee as a possible candidate, and then ask the person if he or she will allow you to submit his or her name to the Nominating Committee to receive additional information.

What are the qualifications for these leadership roles?

The Bible outlines the requirements for Elders and Deacons (e.g. 1 Peter 5:1-4, 1 Timothy 3:1-13, Titus 1:6-9). Elders and Deacons are people who have committed themselves to partner together with others at First Free for the advancement of the Gospel.

What is an Elder?

Elders are the spiritual leaders and shepherds of the church. These men have demonstrated leadership in the home, and they have a good reputation outside the church. They desire to guide, guard, and govern the church under the lordship of Christ. Elder candidates should have a heart for discipleship and have demonstrated a gift for leading others.

What is a Deacon?

Deacon candidates will include men and women who have exhibited the passion and skills for serving and helping others.
