Adult vocal group, teenagers are welcome, initial audition and interview is required
Rehearsal time: Thursdays, 8-9:15 pm
Rehearsal place: Sanctuary
Leader: Marlys Miller
The First Free Lead Vocalists are those possessing a combination of gifts and abilities to enable them to confidently drive the musical worship. They are able to express the message of a song through singing along with an appropriate physical and emotional expression which can be followed and understood by the congregation.
Because of the leadership aspect of this ministry a vocal audition and written testimony are necessary in application. The lead vocalists develop their gifts, their confidence and build community by participating weekly in one of the three main vocal groups (Worship Choir, Worship Ensemble or Gloria Deo). Regular involvement in one of the above vocal groups is required. Personal consistency in attendance and preparation in the larger group setting is co-related to the frequency of small team appearance. Small teams of vocalists will be formed from within the main vocal groups to minister in the worship celebration services using the individual mics. The selection of lead vocalists for small teams follows the Biblical principle of a gift and ability based ministry.
The run-through rehearsals and learning the small team repertoire on Thursdays are two-fold. Whenever a small team is scheduled to participate, the first team rehearsal takes place in Room 339 form 8 to 9 pm for voices with piano only. During this time the singers are coached on formation of harmonies and vocal blend learning the repertoire. The following week the team works at the same time (8-9) in the sanctuary with the Praise Band with the full support of the Audio-Visual Ministry to run-through the entire set for Sunday morning.
In addition to the practical side of using our musical gifts to serve God and His people, our goal is maturing in our relationship with the Lord and strengthening one another. An extended prayer time or a devotional Bible teaching is a vital part of every Thursday rehearsal as the members of the Worship Ensemble, Praise Band and Audio-Visual Ministries meet together in the sanctuary from 7:30 to 8 p.m. In emphasizing the atmosphere of a "small church" we desire to create the environment of a warm and caring discipleship group.
My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you. (Psalm 63:5)
