Philosophy of Giving

More than money-ministry involvement
Our worship of God involves more than gift-giving; it means self-giving. We will strive to develop the stewardship attitude which goes beyond offering a part of our lives to God; it means all of our lives. No dimension is left out. Genuine stewardship is a way of life, affecting how we manage our resources and how we give of ourselves. Indeed, we should think of our financial offerings as symbolic of placing ourselves in the offering bag. For God's people to use their spiritual gifts by serving is as important as it is to give their financial gifts.

Ministry Vision
Our church finances are built more around faith and ministry purpose than on inertia or obligation. It is our aim to continually share the vision and purpose of God's calling for First Free- the real motivation for our confidence in giving.

Confidentiality
We honor confidentiality in giving and privacy in record keeping, believing what a person gives is a spiritual matter between the person and God. Consequently, no pastor or church leader (other than the Financial Secretary) has access to individual giving records.

Freedom
Our ministries are supported entirely by the voluntary, faithful giving of our people. We have chosen to rely on this means rather than pledging and money-making methods (such as product sales and bazaars) for our ministry operations. We believe God can lead His people in giving what is needed.

Few Special Appeals or designated giving projects
As much as possible, we try to minimize special appeals by putting all our "begs" in one "ask-it." Our leadership works through priorities in developing a comprehensive budget and the congregation endorses the plan through their approval of the budget. We believe this approved budget reflects the prayerful consensus of God's people and should not be overridden by directed donations for unapproved projects.

Open records
We strive to be both accountable and open regarding our finances and budgets, using sound accounting principles and reflecting our ministry vision. At our congregational meetings, we try to both present high-level summaries and make available details that give an accurate picture of ministry priorities.

Recognition of donors
One area where we believe church stewardship may differ from other types of community fund-raising is in regard to the honoring of donors. We believe we should foster an attitude of stewardship which does not rely on recognition. In Matthew 6, Jesus teaches, "be careful not to do your "acts of righteousness" before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven." Thus, it would be unwise to trade off God's reward for the honor of our peers.

The Joy of giving
Finally, there's no match for the deep joy of giving back to God. In fact, the Bible describes "cheerful" giving as the norm (2 Corinthians 9:7).

How to Give

"We are a faith-centered church. We believe in prayer and we operate by faith, believing God's work done in God's way will never lack God's support."

If you wish to designate a financial gift or portion of one, please note the following areas approved by leadership. Gifts designated for other purposes will be applied to the appropriate General Fund category or will be returned to the giver.
